    Sickle Cell Unit Opens at Old Holberton Hospital

    A specialised Sickle Cell Unit has officially opened on the grounds of the Old Holberton Hospital, expanding healthcare services for people living with sickle cell disease in Antigua and Barbuda.

    Patients will be able to access the unit’s services beginning Wednesday, Aug. 19.

    The facility will be overseen by Dr. Veena Vignarajah and will provide rapid treatment for acute pain crises, along with wellness checks, patient education and psychosocial support.

    The unit will also work with the national newborn screening programme to promote early diagnosis and ensure affected children and their families receive timely care and support.
