Uganda were shown what it is to chill with the big boys on Saturday evening as West Indies showed them no mercy, beating them by 134 runs. They wanted to bamba and could not manage the force of the mighty Windies as Akeal Hosein collected his best bowling figures in T20 Internationals of five for 11 runs.

West Indies won the toss and batted first posting 173 for five from their allotted 20 overs with Johnson Charles top scoring with 44 and Andre Russell 30. Brian Masaba was the pick of the Ugandan bowlers with two for 31 while Alpesh Ramjani was their most economical with one for 16 from his three overs.

In reply, the Africa side crashed to their lowest total in T20 International being bowled out for 39 runs as the magician called Akeal Hosein bowled a bag of tricks that deceived their batsmen. He picked up the first wicket with his second ball of the innings and before you knew it he had five wickets by his fourth over. Uganda were at one point 23 for seven in seven overs but thanks to Juma Miyagi who top scored with an unbeaten 13 and the only batter to get to double figures, they were to get to 39 batting 12 overs. Apart from Hosein’s five for 11, Alzarri Joseph had two for six runs.

The win helped West Indies secure their second place position with two wins from two outings behind Afghanistan who have the same record but a superior net run rate.

They will play New Zealand on Wednesday in Tarouba, Trinidad in their next match.
