Ed Archibald of Old Runway is expected to be sentenced today after pleading guilty to possessing an illegal firearm and matching ammunition.
Police arrested Archibald on Saturday during a patrol in St. John’s, where they found him with a Ruger .380 handgun and six rounds of ammunition.
Appearing in District B Magistrate’s Court on Monday, Archibald admitted to the charges and claimed he intended to hand over the weapon under the government’s gun amnesty program.
The case comes amid ongoing efforts to reduce illegal firearms in the community.
