New DPP Clement Joseph Vows Independence from Political Influence Lead: Dominica’s newly appointed Director of Public Prosecutions, Clement Joseph, says he will not be used as a “political stooge,” stressing his commitment to upholding the law without interference.

Speaking on Q95 FM ahead of taking office on May 19, Joseph said his constitutional duty requires full independence. “If the government comes with something that is lawful, then fine. If it is unlawful, it is my duty to advise against it,” he said.

Joseph, a seasoned prosecutor from Marigot, Dominica, has worked in Dominica, Turks and Caicos, with a focus on financial crimes. He served as acting DPP in Turks and Caicos from 2017.

His appointment follows the departure of former DPP Anthony Armstrong, who stepped down amid misconduct allegations in Jamaica.
