Antigua was hit by heavy showers and thunder on Wednesday, ending a prolonged period of hot, dry weather.

The downpours, accompanied by thunder and occasional lightning, caused slick roads and slowed traffic in the capital, prompting drivers to take extra caution. No serious flooding was reported, though low-lying areas could see temporary pooling if conditions persist.

The Antigua and Barbuda Meteorological Service said the island remains under a tropical wave, with more showers possible in the coming days.

Farmers welcomed the rain, which brought relief to parched landscapes and replenished soil moisture. Officials continue to monitor the system and advise residents to stay alert for updates.
