Forecasters say the tropical Atlantic is expected to remain quiet through the weekend, despite a tropical wave set to emerge off the west coast of Africa on Sunday.

According to the US National Hurricane Center (NHC), the disturbance has been given a low, 20% chance of developing into a tropical depression or storm over the eastern Atlantic next week.

Meteorologists will continue to monitor conditions in the region closely, but no immediate threats are expected for land areas.

The Atlantic hurricane season, which runs from 1 June to 30 November, has already seen several named storms this year, though forecasters say this particular wave is not likely to intensify in the near term.
