The long-promised move of Antigua and Barbuda’s national broadcaster, ABS Television and Radio, to a new facility has yet to take place, despite government assurances it would happen before the end of the year.

Cabinet spokesman Maurice Merchant told reporters that Information Minister Melford Nicholas is still awaiting final instructions before advising management and staff on the government’s plans for the relocation.

The move has been under discussion for several years, with staff and stakeholders pressing for improved working conditions and upgraded technology to match the broadcaster’s role as the nation’s primary source of news and information.

Officials say the relocation remains a priority, though no firm timeline has been given. Merchant described the development as “long in coming,” but stressed that the transition “is coming and it will take place.”

The government says the relocation is expected to provide larger studios, modern broadcasting infrastructure, and improved resilience during major national events.
