The government is organizing a national workshop for building contractors aimed at improving construction standards, strengthening compliance with the national building code, and expanding access to financing opportunities.

The event, which will take place after the Independence celebrations, is being coordinated by the Minister for Works and will bring together contractors from across Antigua and Barbuda.

According to Director General of Communications Maurice Merchant, the workshop will cover critical areas such as contract preparation, construction standards, project management and planning, quality control, collaboration with government agencies, and workforce development.

Merchant said the sessions will also feature presentations from senior members of the Cabinet, including Prime Minister Gaston Browne and Sir Molwyn Joseph, Minister for Health, Wellness and the Environment.

He explained that the workshop is designed to build stronger partnerships between government and the private construction sector while identifying areas for training and certification. It will also explore financing initiatives to help small and medium contractors grow their businesses and better compete for government and private sector projects.

The move follows the Cabinet’s continued efforts to modernize the construction industry and promote greater efficiency, safety, and quality in national development projects.
