The Office of the Coroner has launched an inquest into the death of 25-year-old Shenika Baptiste, who died shortly after giving birth at the Sir Lester Bird Medical Centre.
Coroner Dexter Wason began the session around 8:15 a.m. Tuesday at Barnes Funeral Home, where a close relative formally identified the body before a seven-member jury. The proceedings were later adjourned _sine die_ , pending additional information.
Senior officers from the Royal Police Force were notified as part of the ongoing investigation.
Baptiste, who had been admitted for a routine Caesarean section, reportedly died soon after being transferred to the Intensive Care Unit. Her family is demanding accountability and considering legal action as they seek answers about her sudden death.
