    LETTER: Is The Treasury Empty?

    Dear Editor,

I am a public servant who is still waiting on back pay that has been repeatedly promised. Calling treasury would make sense if it were possible.

But the ongliest phone number provided to the public is almost never answered and they don’t no email address, no online portal, no alternative method of communication.

Instead me must take time off from work, drive down town, find parking space, and stand up in a line, just to ask basic questions about money government owe me.

This is unacceptable. Why are we being made to navigate a system frozen in the 1990s.

This is ironic especially since this is the self-same government advocating for the adoption of artificial intelligence and digital transformation for over a year. And yet a core financial department cannot even reliably pick-up a receiver to answer a phone.

Is not a favour I’m begging. I’m not even asking for transparency, or accountability. I just want basic access to information about my money that they said belong to me.

A functioning communication system at the Treasury is the bare minimum – multiple phone lines that at people answer with professionalism and information, email support, or an online inquiry system.

But that is too much to ask….maybe AI is the way… maybe it would have paid me since last week, answer the phone and even contact me in advance to let me know yes, the money will be late but it’s coming, the bank didn’t steal your coppers.

    Respectfully,- Disrespected
