The President of the Antigua Trades and Labour Union (AT&LU) says major repairs and an independent air quality test must be completed before staff at the Antigua and Barbuda Broadcasting Service (ABS) resume full duties, following a health and safety walkout.

Bernard De Nully told Antigua.News he met with ABS management after union representatives inspected the building and found non-functional bathrooms, faulty lighting, roof leaks and damp, foul-smelling carpeting.

Workers have been instructed to report, sign in and then return home under provisions of the Labour Code allowing withdrawal from unsafe environments. De Nully said a qualified engineer must certify the air quality and overall safety of the building before employees return, describing the situation as avoidable and pledging the union’s continued focus on workers’ welfare.
