The Antigua Public Utilities Authority (APUA) is pleased to report significant progress in response efforts related to the fuel oil seepage identified at a storage tank located at the former Friars Hill Power Station facility.

Response teams continued working late into the night to contain and manage the situation. As a result of these efforts, all identified seepage areas have been successfully contained, while cleanup activities continue to progress.

Through the coordinated efforts of APUA and its stakeholders, environmental risks associated with the incident have been significantly reduced. Assessments conducted to date indicate that there is currently no threat to nearby waterways.

Response efforts will now focus on the continued removal and proper disposal of materials used during the containment and cleanup process, with all activities being carried out in accordance with established environmental and public health protocols.

APUA extends its sincere appreciation to the National Solid Waste Management Authority, the West Indies Oil Company (WIOC), the National Office of Disaster Services (NODS), the Department of Environment, the Central Board of Health, the Antigua and Barbuda Police Force, the Ministry of Works, the Ministry of Urban Transformation, and all other stakeholders who contributed to the response efforts.

The Authority thanks the general public for their continued understanding and support during this situation.
