Chair of the Antigua and Barbuda Festivals Commission, Elizabeth Makhoul, is urging stronger public participation and increased corporate backing as preparations intensify for Carnival 2026.

Speaking on WTP Media’s Morning with Sly J , Makhoul said Carnival excitement depends on active involvement rather than spectatorship, encouraging residents to support local calypsonians, soca artistes and junior performers by attending events.

She also challenged radio and television stations to do more to promote local music, suggesting dedicated programming for Antiguan artistes and young performers.

Makhoul called on businesses to play a greater role in preserving the culture by sponsoring artistes, supporting schools and investing in cultural initiatives.

The ABFC chair said the commission has been actively supporting pre-Carnival activities since May 29, including Calypso Tent events, pageant preparations and Pan in de City. She noted that marketing efforts are underway across traditional and digital platforms, with support from media partners at home and in the diaspora.
