Gov’t Expands Housing Push with Booby Alley Units and Sutherlands Land Sales

A major housing programme backed by a Chinese grant is moving forward alongside new plans to regularise long-occupied crown lands, as the government expands access to home ownership.

The EC$50 million Booby Alley development, part of a wider EC$100 million urban renewal project, will deliver 150 condominium-style units to replace deteriorating housing in St John’s.

The rent-to-own model will also be applied to a planned Clare Hall development, allowing occupants to convert monthly payments into ownership.

Cabinet has also approved the cancellation of a long-standing lease on 13.6 acres of crown land at Sutherlands, clearing the way for residents to purchase lots at $1 per square foot once they meet the 20-year occupancy requirement.

The site, previously tied up under a lease held by the late Maxwell Randolph Henry, will be redeveloped to include affordable housing, formalised settlements and community infrastructure.
