A Canadian woman arrested with 67 pounds of cannabis at V.C. Bird International Airport has had all charges withdrawn after the Director of Public Prosecutions cited medical reasons.

Roselynee Crisostomo, 48, had been charged with drug trafficking, importation, possession, and intent to supply after authorities allegedly found 61 vacuum-sealed packages of cannabis in two suitcases during a joint airport operation on March 10.

The court was told the DPP instructed prosecutors to discontinue the case, offering only medical reasons for the decision.

Crisostomo, who arrived on an Air Canada flight from Toronto, had earlier indicated a willingness to plead guilty. Because of the large quantity of drugs involved, the matter had been set for fast-tracked committal proceedings.

Police said the cannabis carried an estimated street value of EC$536,000.
