ST. JOHN’S, Antigua and Barbuda — The United States National Hurricane Center (NHC) is monitoring a broad area of disturbed weather that could slowly develop off the southeastern coast of the United States during the coming week.

In its 8 a.m. EDT tropical weather outlook on Saturday, the NHC said environmental conditions may allow the system to gradually organize as it drifts westward.

Forecasters, however, stressed that development is not expected to be significant in the near term, assigning the disturbance a 20 percent chance of tropical cyclone formation over the next seven days.

At this time, the system poses no immediate threat to Antigua and Barbuda or the Eastern Caribbean , as it is forecast to remain near the southeastern United States.

The NHC continues to monitor the disturbance and has advised residents in potentially affected areas to follow future forecasts for any changes.
