Prime Minister Gaston Browne has rejected any concerns about leadership succession within the Antigua and Barbuda Labour Party (ABLP), asserting that the party has a deep bench of capable individuals ready to take on key roles in the future.
Speaking on _The Browne and Browne Show_ on Pointe FM, Mr. Browne highlighted several younger members within the party whom he described as well-prepared to assume leadership positions when the time comes. He pointed to Cabinet ministers and emerging political figures as evidence that the party is actively cultivating a new generation of leaders.
“The Labour Party at this point has no issue when it comes to continuity,” he said. “When you look within the talent pool of the Labour Party, practically every minister has the capacity to serve as prime minister.”
Among those he mentioned were Maria Browne, Daryll Matthew, and Michael Joseph, along with other rising members such as Rawdon Turner and Dwayne George. He also emphasized that several of the party’s younger politicians are gaining experience and positioning themselves for greater responsibilities.
The Prime Minister’s comments come amid ongoing political shifts, with both major parties preparing for future elections. While there have been discussions in political circles about potential transitions in leadership, Mr. Browne’s remarks appear to be aimed at reassuring supporters that the ABLP remains stable and well-positioned for the future.
