Performing artist Leepee Ching has voiced strong support for a community-led campaign to rename Potters Village “Burning Flames Village” in honour of the legendary soca band.

The initiative, spearheaded by residents of the area, comes after the government’s recent decision to rename the Potters Main Road as _Burning Flames Highway_. Ching called the road renaming “a powerful and long-overdue initiative” but urged officials to go further.

“Burning Flames is more than just a band,” Ching said. “They are Antigua and Barbuda’s heartbeat — musically, culturally, traditionally — ambassadors who carried our music, sounds, festival, and spirit to the world stage.”

The proposal also calls for local streets to be named after band members, including _Destroyer Street_ and _Yng Destroyer Road_ , to honour their artistry and inspire future generations.

Ching and the residents argue that renaming the village would preserve the group’s cultural legacy, attract visitors, and serve as a reminder to young people that “greatness can come from right here in our community.”

Burning Flames, formed in the 1980s, is credited with revolutionising soca music and elevating Antigua and Barbuda’s profile on the regional and international stage.
