Meteorologists have issued a flash flood watch for low-lying areas of Antigua and Barbuda, warning that flooding could occur before 1pm.

The Antigua and Barbuda Meteorological Services reported heavy thunderstorms and frequent lightning since early Wednesday morning.

A tropical wave moving across the Leeward and British Virgin Islands has caused intermittent heavy rain, with some areas of Antigua recording one inch and Barbuda up to three inches over the past three hours.

Officials say up to two more inches of rain could fall over the next six hours, increasing the risk of flash flooding. Residents in vulnerable areas are urged to prepare and move to higher ground if conditions worsen.
