Tranquility Park Cemetery has officially opened with the burial of Janette Eloise Henry of Willikies, known as the “Labour Queen.”

Hundreds of mourners, including Prime Minister Gaston Browne, members of the Antigua Labour Party and United Progressive Party Senator Alex Browne, attended the ceremony on Monday.

Located along the Sir Sydney Walling Highway, the new cemetery was created to ease overcrowding at the St John’s Public Cemetery. It features uniformed graves and plans for a non-denominational chapel.

Henry’s interment marks the first at the long-awaited site, which aims to provide modern, dignified burial facilities for Antigua and Barbuda.
