ABS- Veteran petrol station proprietor, George ‘Charlie’ Barnes, was shot dead in Ottos Friday night. The businessman was reportedly shot in the chest during an attack by armed assailants outside his home.
The circumstances surrounding the incident are not immediately clear. The hoodlums reportedly fled in a vehicle following the shooting which occurred about 10pm.
Investigators have launched a high-level probe into the incident, and are urging anyone with information which can lead to the perpetrators being nabbed, to contact the Criminal Investigations Department at 462-3913.
The murder has sent shockwaves across the business community and the entire nation. Barnes has operated his business on Sir Sydney Walling Highway for several years.
