Police are investigating the death of 23-year-old Michael Alexander Garcia, a Dominican Republic national and father of a three-year-old, who died Saturday after reportedly falling through a roof while working on a farm.

The incident occurred around 4:30 p.m. in an area known as Blackout, located along Dam Road. Garcia was said to be on the roof of a building when he fell, suffering severe head injuries.

Emergency Medical Services personnel arrived to find him lying in a pool of blood. Advanced Emergency Medical Technicians Marina Walker and Mekile Tonkinson are being commended for their efforts to resuscitate him. Despite their attempts and continued efforts by doctors at Sir Lester Bird Medical Centre, Garcia was later pronounced dead.

The tragedy has deeply affected Antigua’s Hispanic community, with many gathering at the hospital Saturday evening to mourn his death.
