Prime Minister Gaston Browne says the government will increase the nation’s water production by an additional two million gallons per day as part of efforts to strengthen the country’s water infrastructure and ensure reliable year-round supply.

Speaking on the _Browne and Browne Show_ on Pointe FM, Browne said the expansion will come from new and upgraded reverse osmosis (RO) plants, including facilities at **Barnacle Point** and **Bethesda**.

“We’re adding another two million gallons of water per day,” Browne said. “We’ve already solved the problem of water shortage — what we’re doing now is building redundancy to make sure the system stays reliable.”

The prime minister said the government’s goal is to move beyond simply meeting demand and instead establish a system capable of maintaining steady production even during plant maintenance or drought conditions.

“We’re not just meeting demand — we’re getting ahead of it,” Browne said. “The aim is to have enough water so that even if one plant goes down, there’s no disruption.”

Browne said the investment reflects the administration’s broader focus on national infrastructure resilience, noting that the water programme complements ongoing work to improve roads, electricity supply, and public facilities.

The additional two million gallons per day will bring Antigua and Barbuda’s total production capacity to well above domestic and commercial demand, marking what Browne described as “a turning point” in the country’s long-running effort to end water scarcity.
