Weeks after being placed on administrative leave, Clarevue Psychiatric Hospital head Dr Griffin Benjamin remains off duty, with no word from the Ministry of Health on his return.

The Dominican psychiatrist was suspended in early September amid what the ministry called “serious concerns” about his conduct and management of the facility.

He was directed to hand over all hospital property, barred from entering government institutions, and prohibited from leaving Antigua and Barbuda without written approval.

The investigation reportedly centres on the confinement of an American University of Antigua student and the use of an antipsychotic drug not listed on the government’s formulary, though it appears on the wider OECS list.

The ministry said the action was precautionary, but no update has been issued, leaving the institution without a permanent medical head since his removal.
