A government-backed programme to identify vision problems among schoolchildren has entered its second phase, beginning with screenings at Five Islands Primary School.

The Prime Minister’s Vision Initiative, in partnership with the Trinidad Eye Hospital, is providing students with access to professional eye-care services as the latest round of visits gets underway.

The programme is focused on detecting vision difficulties early, with officials noting that untreated problems can affect children’s ability to read, write and participate fully in classroom activities.

The initiative is expected to reach additional schools as Phase Two continues, expanding efforts to support children’s eye health and academic development.
