The sale of alcohol is prohibited across Antigua and Barbuda on Thursday as the country observes its National Day of Prayer.

Bars, restaurants, supermarkets, shops and other licensed businesses are required to comply with the restriction during the public holiday.

The national observance is focused on prayer, fasting and reflection under the theme

“From Repentance to Restoration: Rebuilding Trust in the God of Our Nation.”

Churches, broadcasters and designated prayer locations are hosting activities centred on repentance, restoration, justice, hope and thanksgiving.

The day will conclude with a national prayer gathering at the Antigua Recreation Grounds from 16:00 to 18:00, bringing together religious leaders, worshippers and members of the public.

The National Day of Prayer was established as a public holiday to provide an opportunity for people across Antigua and Barbuda to reflect on the country’s spiritual and national direction through collective prayer.
