OPINION: Antigua, Island of US Defense!

After World War II, the U.S. with the permission of the UK occupied lands in and around the North Eastern region of Antigua, as their headquarters of protection of their shores facing the Caribbean Sea.

Jamaica, St.Lucia, Grenada and Trinidad had established support bases, but Antigua was the stronghold of the Air, Sea and ground, a central military base for the Caribbean. Thus the Caribbean Basin became the U.S. post-war Defence against possible reprisals.

Today clearly the eye of the giant neighbor is oncemore on the islands ,as our region is being pulled into the warmongering which established the character of U.S. control. With not so tacit acceptance of the U.S. move into our area, the two oil countries of Trinidad and Guyana, whose leaders and a large segment of their population are East Indian by race, seem to have capitulated.

The proposed visit by top U.S. Military brass to position Radar in Grenada, and to talk of their plans for Antigua, has us all wondering if the proposal for Antigua is a base for their war planes.

Having been subjected to all the negatives of a foreign military base on Antigua for 50+ years, during which period Antigua & Barbuda achieved independence (political only), we can only await the outcome with prayers, and appeal to God to save us from American warmongering, and the cruel hardships which accompany war, and its interference in the poor man’s life. Americans only love America (and maybe Israel), and since becoming a world dictator, has little respect for countries like ours, which are referred to by their President as Shxxhole countries.

Let all Antiguans pray that our Prime Minister and his Cabinet resist with all their righteous might, allowing our country to become embroiled in this travesty of control exhibited by the ugliness of American world politics. The Caribbean is a zone of Peace & Love! Let us live and share our peaceful islands and sea!
