Opposition Leader Jamale Pringle has called on the government to address its own abandoned and dilapidated buildings, saying the state should set an example before penalizing private citizens for similar neglect.
Speaking in Parliament during debate on urban management and public health enforcement, Pringle said, “Before we start going after private citizens for derelict buildings, the government must fix its own. We have too many abandoned and dilapidated government properties sitting right in the city.”
The Opposition Leader’s comment came amid broader discussions on property maintenance and the need to modernize urban spaces. He argued that the government’s credibility in enforcing such regulations depends on its willingness to apply the same standards to its own holdings.
Pringle said neglected state buildings send the wrong message about governance and public responsibility, and he urged the administration to take immediate steps to restore them.
